Power generation of first unit Payra Thermal Power Plant starts again

Sowmetro Sumon, Payra Port (Patuakhali)

Power generation of Unit-1 of Payra 1320- MW Thermal Power Plant in Kalapara of Patuakhali has started again after a week.

The unit started production on Monday at around 4:30 pm. The entire 1320- MW power is now being supplied to the national grid from this centre. Earlier, on June 24 at around 4 pm, the authorities stopped the power generation of one of the two units (660 MW) for maintenance.

With the commissioning of unit-1 of this center, load shedding in the southern region can reduce a lot. Payra 1320 MW Thermal Power Plant Supervising Engineer Shah Abdul Hasib confirmed this.

He also said that we were supposed to launch Unit-1 on July 04. But thinking about the country, our officers and employees worked day and night and were able to generate electricity from Unit-1 at 4:30 pm on Monday. We are currently supplying a total of 1320 MW of electricity to the national grid.

It is mentioned that in 2013 Payra thermal power plant was constructed by acquiring 1 thousand 2 acres of land in Nishanbaria village of Dhankhali union of Kalapara upazila. Two units of 660 MW have been commissioned here.

The joint investment of Bangladesh-China Power Company Limited (BCPCL) has been supplying electricity to the national grid through the generation of two units of this power plant in phases since 2020. The center is meeting the majority of the electricity demand of the country.
