Surveillance has been increased in risky areas by flying drones in the sky to curb crime in the remote char areas of Chilmari in Kurigram.
In addition, the waterway has been brought under special surveillance for two days. Detective Police (DB), Naval Police, and Thana Police have intensified patrols on risky routes. This surveillance is being conducted strictly by conducting roadshows.
Police said that there have been incidents of robbery on the Chilmari-Roumari-Rajibpur route at various times. In view of this, the police are keeping special vigil on these two routes on market days as well as other days. In addition to police patrols, special vigilance is being maintained at important points in this upazila by flying drones and this will continue.
A big market is held in the upazila's Jorgacha on Sundays and Wednesdays. On this day, various traders from the surrounding upazila, apart from the char areas of Chilmari, also come by boat to attend the market. After the repeated incidents of robbery, the police of the concerned police station are working under the instructions of the district police superintendent, as a result of which the trend of robbery has reduced to a great extent.
Through investigation and field visits, it was found that special surveillance was carried out by flying drones at various important points in the upazila, including Jorgach Hat, Ramna Ghat, Kanchkol, Fakirer Hat, and the chars of Chilmari Union.
Maidul Islam of Chilmari Union said that robberies have not decreased. And drones can be seen flying in the sky, so if there is a gang of robbers or drug dealers in the bushes, they can be caught very easily. He thanked the police for making special arrangements for drone cameras.
A businessman named Mahfuzar said, "Now people are not afraid to come to the market on market days. Police members can be seen taking positions in boats at various places on the Brahmaputra River."
In this regard, Kurigram District Police Superintendent Md. Mahfuzur Rahman said that round-the-clock drone monitoring is underway to prevent crime at the Chilmari river port and waterways. Due to additional police activity, boat robbery has been stopped for a long time.
