Police announces zero tolerance on extortion in Ashulia’s Baipail Bus Stand
Mehedi Shaon, Ashulia ( Savar)
After years of suffering under the grip of extortion, business owners in the Baipail bus stand area of Ashulia have finally found relief. A firm stance by law enforcement and a series of decisive operations have helped restore a sense of security and stability to the local business environment.
According to reports, for a long time, various extortion rackets regularly collected money from transport counters, hotels, small shops, and street vendors around the Baipail bus stand. Refusal to pay would often lead to violent attacks, vandalism, and physical assault. The ongoing disputes between rival groups over extortion rights also led to counter-attacks and protest rallies, plunging the area into a state of unrest.
In response, police compiled a list of known extortionists and launched comprehensive raids. Officers are now visiting businesses directly, reassuring owners and instructing them not to pay any form of extortion money.
Officer-in-Charge (Operations) of Ashulia Police Station, Shafiqul Islam Sumon, said, "We have a zero-tolerance policy against extortion. No one will be spared."
A video of Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle), Shahinur Kabir, delivering a public announcement via loudspeaker has gone viral. In the video, he declares, "We are not the police from before August 5 — we are the after August 5 police. Public safety is our only priority."
Business owners say the police action has brought them a great deal of relief and that business is returning to normal.
Locals believe that if the police continue with this firm approach, Baipail will once again become a safe and thriving center for commerce.
