
Poison fishing in Sundarbans, 4 fishermen arrested

Four fishermen were arrested by members of the Forest Department’s Smart Team on charges of fishing with poison on the coast of the world heritage site, the Sundarbans. During the operation, two boats, two bottles of pesticide, and illegal veshaly nets were seized.
According to Forest Department sources, on Thursday at around 7 AM, a raid was conducted in the Chhoto Mollakhali Canal area under the leadership of Khulna Range Smart Team Leader Md. Mobarak Hossain.
The arrested fishermen are Kabirul Sana, Masum Sana, Habibullah Sheikh, and Abdur Rashid from village no. 4 of Koyra Upazila.
Shafiqul Islam Shahid, the (acting) officer of the Kashiabad Forest Station, said that a case has been filed under the Forest Act in this regard, and the arrested individuals have been sent to court.
