The World Child Rights Day and the Golden Jubilee (50th anniversary) festival of Bangladesh Shishu Academy was inaugurated in Bogra with colorful arrangements under the theme "Protect the future of children".
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced the official inauguration of the three-day main national festival at a ceremony organized at the Bogura Deputy Commissioner's conference room at 10 am on Tuesday, joining virtually from the capital Dhaka via video conference.
Immediately after the central inauguration, the district-wide program was launched with a colorful rally and balloon release at the Bogra District Commissioner's office premises.
The inaugural ceremony organized with the support of the Bogra District Administration was attended by Bogra-6 (Sadar) constituency MP Rezaul Karim Badsha as the chief guest. Other guests at the ceremony included Bogra City Corporation Administrator MR Islam Swadhin, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Md. Taufiqur Rahman, Superintendent of Police Mirza Sayem Mahmud, PPM and senior officials of the district administration.
Also present were Abul Kalam Azad, nominated members of the restructured management committee of Shishu Academy Bogra and general secretary of Bogra Press Club, Nazma Akhter, Advocate Palash Sarkar, along with students and guardians of various educational institutions in the city.
After the program, Abul Kalam Azad, a nominated member of the Bangladesh Shishu Academy Bogra District Management Committee and General Secretary of the Bogra Press Club, expressed his reaction to the event and said, "The Shishu Academy was established by martyred President Ziaur Rahman. Due to political vendetta against him for establishing it, the previous government plotted to use the Shilpakala Academy to run the Shishu Academy so that these children could not develop and the academy could not do any work."
He also said that today's children are the future of tomorrow. This Shishu Academy is the main means of developing their mindset and humanity and making them capable of building the future of Bangladesh. We want Shishu Academy to play a key role in shaping the mindset of children in the future and Shilpakala Academy will work only with adults."
Giving details of the overall program, Bogra District Child Affairs Officer Md. Sohel Rana said, "On the occasion of the golden jubilee of Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Child Rights Day and World Children's Week, various arrangements have been made by the Bogra District Office from October 6 to 10. After the inauguration, sports and cultural competitions have been started for street children, laborers, orphans and children with special needs, along with general students."
The week-long event will officially conclude on October 10 at 4 pm at the Bogra District Council Auditorium with a discussion meeting, cultural program, and prize distribution among the winning children.
