Irene Akhter (15), daughter of day laborer Md. Abdul Aziz Miah of Patrakhata Masterpara area of Ramna Model Union under Chilmari Upazila of Kurigram. Local Patrakhata Riazul is an 8th class student of Jannah Dakhil Madrasa. Despite having a strong desire to read and write, he is not able to go to madrasa like other friends because of his disability. Irene Akhter, who is paralyzed due to lack of treatment, said that she wants to work in a bank after studying.
Irene's mother Mosha Nachima Begum said, Irene is the youngest of two sons and a daughter. Irene was very shy from a young age. At the age of 5 years, Irene suddenly started walking with her right leg. We were upset to see the girl walking with her right leg and we brought Kabiraj to the house to blow the brush. Irene was walking well till the 5th standard with the treatment of Jhar Fuk, her right leg was amputated.
After reaching the 6th standard, my daughter suddenly felt tired from the waist down. I took Irene from the local level to Rangpur and finally to Dhaka. At one point, when he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, they advised him to take him to Savar's CRP Hospital after treatment.
Later 24 days treatment was also taken with CRP hospital. Irene's father, a daily wage labourer, collected around 3.5 lakh rupees by taking loans from various places, which was spent on medical treatment. We returned home after 24 days as we ran out of money. If the doctor called again within 6 months, we could not go due to lack of moneyMeanwhile, Irene's mother said sadly, if she had money, my daughter could have recovered and gone to school today.
A lot of money is required to go to the CRP hospital in Dhaka Savar for treatment. It is impossible for Irene's poor father, who works as a day laborer, to provide so much money.
