Petrapole-Benapole immigration closed for three days due to election

Petrapole-Benapole checkposts will remain closed for the next 3 days from Saturday (May 18) morning due to Lok Sabha elections in India. During this time no passport holder can travel between the two countries. However, this law has been relaxed in the case of medical visa patients. Besides, due to upazila elections and government holidays in Bangladesh, the import and export activities between the two countries will be closed for the next 5 days from May 18 to May 22.

According to Petrapol Immigration sources, due to the election of Bangaon Lok Sabha seat on May 20, Benapole will be able to conduct limited passenger movement through Petrapol Immigration. From the morning of May 18, immigration operations will continue on a limited basis. In that case, only immigration will be open for terminally ill passengers and Indian nationals stranded in Bangladesh.

Petrapol C&F Agent Welfare Association general secretary Karthik Chakraborty and Benapole C&F Agent Staff Association general secretary Sajedur Rahman said, "Bangaon Lok Sabha election. All measures have been taken from the district administration for security. Due to this, for the first time from May 18 to May 20, India will stop the import and export of all types of goods, including passport passengers, until May 22.
