People on both sides of border suffering for a bridge, urgent steps needed
Sarkar shahadot Hossain, Gaibandha
A bamboo bridge built over the Burail River broke due to the force of the rain water and the pressure of the mud, in the villsge Khoda in Sundarganj and people on both sides are suffering endlessly. Unable to cross, many people on both sides are swimming across the river in emergency situations, risking their lives.
Now the only means of crossing is boats. The local residents are demanding the construction of a bridge and the paving of the dirt road.
It is seen on the spot that for the past 26 years, the local residents have been building a bamboo bridge at that place with their own money and using it to cross. This bridge is repaired by the local residents every year with their own efforts. This bridge is an important means of crossing the Burail River. Every day, hundreds of farmers, people from the riverbanks and ordinary travelers cross this bridge for free. Besides, the officials and employees of Teesta Solar Limited, the country's largest private solar power generation plant built in Khodachar and Latshalachar villages, suffered terribly every day.
Visitors to Alibaba Theme Park also used to travel through this bridge. Hundreds of students from schools, colleges and madrasas used to travel. Various goods and agricultural products were transported through this bridge. In this situation, the intensity of the water flow increased due to heavy rains in the last few days. Also, due to the pressure of Kachuri water, some parts of the bamboo bridge built on the Burail River broke and were washed away by the water yesterday, Wednesday. Due to this, people on both banks are suffering because they cannot cross. It is necessary to build bridges by the government to improve the quality of life of the people of the char area.
The villages of Khoda and Latshala are to the east and north of this bridge. The people of these two villages, along with the people of the neighboring Ulipur upazila, go to the largest Mirganjhat in the upazila on Saturdays and Wednesdays of the week to buy and sell goods. The traders of the school market in Khodar Char and the new market in Latshalar Char are also in trouble as they are unable to transport their goods.
The Teesta River is on the east side of Khoda and Latshalar. Passengers cross the river and travel to various places in the country including Rangpur, Gaibandha, Dhaka through this bridge. They are also in trouble. About 30 to 35 thousand people on both banks of the Burail River, especially children and students, are suffering extremely.
A. Razzak, a resident of Khodar Char, said that the government needs to pave the road between Khoda and Latshalar along with the construction of the bridge. Farmer Shah Alam said, "I have to go to the pasture every day to work on the land. So I demand the construction of the bridge quickly." Upazila Engineer Siddiqur Rahman said, "I joined here a few days ago. However, whatever cooperation is needed for the construction of the bridge and the paving of the road at that place will be provided."
