Passing energy crisis, anti-Sharia 'Heba Act' amounts to fraud with public opinion: Prof Lokman Hakim

Barishal Metropolitan Branch of the Islami Andolan Bangladesh has held a protest march in Barishal to protest the government's failure to resolve the energy crisis and the passage of the anti-Sharia 'Heba Act'.
The protest rally organized at the city's Town Hall premises on Friday was presided over by Professor Lokman Hakim, president of the Islami Andolan Bangladesh Barisal Metropolitan Branch. Maulana Abul Khair Ashrafi conducted the rally and protest procession.
Professor Lokman Hakim said, "When the people of the country are suffering from energy crisis, rising commodity prices and various public sufferings, passing the anti-Sharia 'Heba Act' without taking effective steps to solve the people's fundamental problems is tantamount to cheating the public opinion."
He said, "The state must be run with respect for the religious values and expectations of the people. If any law is imposed that goes against the people's opinions and religious values, the people will not accept it."
Speakers at the rally said that public opinion should be given importance instead of imposing any controversial laws on the people.
Later, a protest march led by the leaders took out from the Town Hall premises. The procession circled various important roads of the city.
The rally was also addressed by Barishal Metropolitan Branch Senior Vice President Professor Maulana Zakaria Hamidi, Maulana Lutfar Rahman, Muhammad Zakir Hossain Kafra, Joint Secretary Maulana Abdul Aziz, Assistant Secretary Maulana Nasir Uddin Nais, Islami Sramik Andolan Bangladesh Barisal Metropolitan Branch President Syed Nasir Ahmed Kausar, National Ulama Mashayek Aima Parishad General Secretary Maulana Abu Zafar, Islamic Lawyers Council President Advocate Sheikh Abdullah Naser, Islamic Youth Movement President Hafez Maulana Rezaul Karim, Islamic Chhatra Andolan Bangladesh City President Muhammad Sirajul Islam, Barisal University S. M. Hasibullah and BM College President Muhammad Imam Hasan, along with leaders from all walks of life.
