Panchagarh-2 Constituency : Voters increased by 55,000

The 12th national parliament election is going to be held tomorrow on January 7. In this election, the number of new voters in Panchagarh-2 seat has increased by 55 thousand 76 people. In keeping with the new voters, the number of polling booths increased by 162.

In Panchagarh-2 constituencies consisting of Debiganj and Boda upazilas, two municipalities and 20 unions, the current total number of voters is three lakh 89 thousand 941 people. Among them, 1 lakh 95 thousand 710 male voters, 1 lakh 94 thousand 228 female voters and 3 third gender voters.

According to the returning officer's office, the total number of voters in Debiganj upazila this year is one lakh 95 thousand 824 people. Among them, 98 thousand 501 male voters, 97 thousand 321 female voters and 2 third gender voters. On the other hand, the total number of voters in Boda Upazila is one lakh 94 thousand 117 people. 97 thousand 209 male voters, 96 thousand 907 female voters and 1 third gender voter.

Meanwhile, in the 2018 11th National Parliament election, the total number of voters in this constituency was 3 lakh 34 thousand 865 people. Among them, 1 lakh 67 thousand 644 male voters, 1 lakh 67 thousand 221 female voters.

On the other hand, the number of new voters in this election is 55 thousand 76 people. The number of polling stations and polling booths has increased along with the new voters. In 2018, there were 131 polling stations and 650 polling booths in this constituency. Although the number of polling stations has not increased this year, the number of temporary polling booths has increased to 162. This time polling will be held in 854 rooms in two upazilas.

In the 12th National Assembly elections, Awami League nominated candidate Md. Nurul Islam Sujan is competing with the current parliamentarian and railway minister, Md. Lutfar Rahman Ripon of Jatiya Party, Ahmad Reza Farooqui of Bangladesh Supreme Party and Md. Abdul Aziz of Trinamool BNP.

It should be noted that in 1984, when the larger Dinajpur district was divided into three new districts, Panchagarh district was formed with five upazilas. At the same time, Panchagarh-2 parliamentary seat was formed with Debiganj and Boda upazilas. 8 parliamentary elections have been held in this constituency since 1986. In this, Awami League can hold 3 times, BNP 2 times, CPB 2 times and Jatiya Party 1 time.
