Faridpur Engineering College hosted an orientation program for the newly admitted BSc in Engineering students for the 2024–25 academic session. The event took place on Saturday at the college auditorium.
The program was graced by Md. Rafiqul Islam, Secretary of the Technical and Madrasa Education Division, Ministry of Education, as the chief guest. The ceremony was presided over by Professor Md. Alamgir Hossain, Principal of Faridpur Engineering College.
Among others present were Engineer Md. Ruhul Amin, Chairman of the Bangladesh Technical Education Board; Md. Rezaul Haque, Director (Vocational) of the Directorate of Technical Education; Susmita Saha, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT); teachers, students, and guardians from Faridpur Polytechnic Institute.
In his keynote speech, Secretary Md. Rafiqul Islam highlighted that nearly 55% of the country’s youth are interested in technology-based education, but many lag behind due to a lack of modern training and practical skills. He emphasized that the world is now entering the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, dominated by Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, cybersecurity, renewable energy, and automation.
He urged students not to be content with just becoming certified engineers but to grow into innovators and problem-solvers. “The global economy is now knowledge- and technology-driven,” he said, “and Bangladesh must prepare itself to compete in that landscape.”
Commending the institution, the Secretary noted that government engineering colleges across the country are playing a vital role in expanding multidimensional technical education. He praised Faridpur Engineering College for its modern laboratories, advanced curriculum, and practical training, which are producing skilled and industry-ready engineers.
