OMS sale starts in Rangpur

By coordinating the activities of OMS and TCB in Rangpur, food grain sales activities have started in the open market. On this occasion, a press conference was held at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room on Thursday .

In a written statement at the press conference, Deputy Commissioner Asib Ahsan said that since September 01, various plans have been adopted to implement OMS and food-friendly programs across the country to prevent the upward trend in the market price of food grains, to provide price support to the low-income population and to keep the market price stable.

OMS activities have been extended to Rangpur City Corporation, Upazilas and Municipalities of Rangpur District like the whole country. At upazila level, 5 upazila headquarters (Mithapukur, Taraganj, Gangachara, Kaunia and Pirgacha) will sell 2 tons of rice per dealer daily through 2 dealers. Besides, in the remaining 3 municipalities, 2 tons of rice per dealer will be sold daily through 3 shop dealers. In Rangpur City Corporation, this program will run in 25 centers through 17 shop dealers and 8 truck dealers. Only in 17 shops of City Corporation, besides rice, a total of 8 and a half metric tons of flour will be sold at 500 kg per dealer. There are 44 total daily sales centers in the district. The total allocation of rice in Dainik district is 88 metric tons and the total allocation of flour in Dainik City Corporation is 8 and a half metric tons.

He said that TCB consumers can also purchase 5 kg of rice once a fortnight and 10 kg of rice twice a month by showing their card. It will be different for them. A maximum of 3 kg of flour per day can be purchased in the city corporation area. However, TCB card holders will not be able to purchase flour. The price of rice has been fixed at Rs.30/- per kg and the price of flour at Rs.18/- per kg.

Under this program, 17 thousand 600 beneficiaries will be able to purchase rice in Rangpur district and 2 thousand 833 beneficiaries in City Corporation area will be able to purchase flour daily.

The program will run from Sunday to Thursday, 5 days a week from 9am to 5pm or until the sale ends, whichever occurs first. According to the instructions of Hon'ble Prime Minister, TCB card holders will get the products on priority basis. Deputy Secretary of Food Ministry Shamsuzzaman, Chief Executive Officer of Rangpur City Corporation Ruhul Amin Mia, DC Food Reazur Rahman and Additional Deputy Commissioner Golam Rabbani were present at this time.

Earlier in the morning, Rangpur City Corporation Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa and Deputy Commissioner Asib Ahsan jointly inaugurated this program in the city's 26th Ward, Robatsonganj. Chief Executive Officer of Rangpur City Corporation, Secretary Umme Fatema, DC Food, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Ward No. 26 Councilor Saiful Islam Phulu were present among others.
