The Oman government has opened the labour market for Bangladeshis in 12 categories, including doctors, engineers, nurses, and teachers, said State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Shofiqur Rahman Choudhury on Tuesday.
“Oman is also considering waiving fines for illegal migrants and the government will legalise 96,000 Bangladeshis living in the country,” he told reporters in the capital this afternoon.
Earlier, Oman's Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdul Ghaffar Bin Abdul Karim Al-Bulushi paid a courtesy call on the state minister at the latter’s office.
Shofiqur Rahman said, “Although visas for skilled manpower are available, we will submit a proposal to the working committee for taking unskilled manpower to the country [Oman] as well.”
During the meeting with Oman's ambassador, he said, a discussion was also held on dedicating a technical training centre (TTC) to Oman. “We would like to provide training to workers as per their demand in one of our TTCs.”
