No corruption will be tolerated in impending Tk 16,000 cr health sector tenders: State Minister for Health

Staff Correspondent

State Minister for Health Dr. M. A. Muhith issued a stern warning against long-standing corruption and systemic mismanagement in the health sector, declaring that not a single penny of the upcoming Tk 16,000 crore procurement tenders scheduled over the next 15 days will be allowed to fall victim to misappropriation or waste.

The state minister delivered his address as the chief guest at a national civic dialogue titled "Urban Child Health Under Climate Change Risks: Crisis and Actions Required" held at The Daily Star Executive Hall in the capital on Tuesday afternoon. The seminar was organized by the Children Watch Foundation.

Calling upon civil society and media professionals to maintain vigilance and act as watchdogs, the state minister asserted that prevention is superior to cure in combating systemic corruption just as it is in managing medical ailments.

Moderated by Md. Jahangir Alam, the dialogue featured addresses by Member of Parliament Anisur Rahman Khokon and Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Managing Director Kazi Rowshanul Islam. Children Watch Foundation Chairperson Shah Ishrat Ajmeri presented the keynote paper highlighting urban child health vulnerabilities driven by climate variations.
