Two associates of the notorious 'Ranga Bahini' of the Sundarbans were detained with arms and ammunition and nine abducted fishermen rescued by Coast Guard
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Hoque confirmed the matter on Fiday morning.
The press release said, based on secret information it was learned that members of the notorious Ranga Bahini gang of the Sundarbans had abducted some fishermen and kept them hostage in the Adachagi area of the Sundarbans. Acting on this information, on Friday at 5:00 AM, a special operation was conducted in the said area by Coast Guard Base Mongla. During the operation, sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, the bandits attempted to flee. Later, the operation team chased them down and arrested two associates of the notorious Ranga Bahini gang of the Sundarbans along with 2 single-barrel guns, 2 rounds of live cartridges, 8 rounds of blank cartridges, 3 sets of indigenous firearms-making equipment, and 1 indigenous weapon. At that time, 9 abducted fishermen were also rescued from their captivity.
The rescued fishermen said that on 3 September 2025, they went to the Sundarbans for fishing and crab collection, when the Ranga Bahini gang detained them last night and demanded ransom. All of the rescued fishermen are residents of Dakop police station in Khulna district.
From the primary interrogation, it was learned that the arrested bandit associates Nasir Molla (31) and Mintu Sardar (40) are residents of Bagerhat and Khulna districts. They had long been assisting the Ranga Bahini gang in robbery by supplying arms, ammunition, and other essentials.
The process of taking further legal action regarding the rescued fishermen, the arrested bandits, and the seized evidence is underway.
