As part of the month-long July march of the National Citizens Party (NCP), central leaders joined a road meeting in Rangamati on Sunday (July 20) afternoon.
Starting from Ghagra in Rangamati, the march with NCP central and local leaders and activists ended at the Banarupa CNG complex through Shilpakala Road in the city. Later, a road meeting was held there.
Meanwhile, a strong presence of law enforcement agencies was seen in Bhedhedi, Collegegate, Rajbari, Happymor, and Banarupa in the city.
NCP convener Nahid Islam, the party's southern chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah, northern chief organizer Sarjis Alam and other leaders spoke at the road meeting.
At the roadshow, NCP leader Sarjis Alam said, "Our politics will continue, life will continue, but we have to keep the biodiversity of our mountains alive. We have to remember that this biodiversity is inextricably linked to the mountains. No one should use these mountains for personal or family interests."
NCP convener Nahid Islam said, "Our expectation is an interim democratic Bangladesh. A country where all religions, ethnic groups, and communities can live together as fellow citizens with dignity. We want such a state, a country."
He said, "In the last 50 years, the country was divided in various ways. In this Chittagong Hill Tracts, by living through various divisions and unrest, another party repeatedly tries to take advantage. We will not allow any third party to take advantage of it."
He also said, "The unrest and division that has been going on in the mountains for years must be eliminated. We will all fight unitedly for the sovereignty and national security of Bangladesh." To protect Bangladesh from any hegemonic power, all communities in the country will have to continue this fight together.
NCP leader Hasnat Abdullah said, "We, the young generation, will try with our lives to rise above mistakes and build a just state and social system. Where equal rights will be established for people of different religions, different communities, and different languages."
