Farida Khanom, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka, has urged everyone to work collectively toward building a stable, humane, and prosperous nation by reinforcing national unity, mutual respect, and democratic values.
Speaking as the chair at a discussion meeting organized by the Dhaka District Administration to observe National Revolution and Solidarity Day at the DC conference room on Saturday, she noted that while differences of opinion and ideology are natural in a democratic society, all citizens must remain responsible and united on matters of national interest, social harmony, and state stability.
Highlighting the historic significance of the day, DC Farida Khanom remarked that November 7 holds a pivotal position in Bangladesh's political history. She said, following the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975, the nation plunged into deep political turmoil. This was followed by a military coup on November 3, leading up to the historic sepoy-people uprising on November 7 that ushered in a new chapter in the nation's political landscape. She stressed the importance of evaluating history objectively and learning from past experiences to build a stable and democratic future.
Underscoring the spirit of the Liberation War, she stated that independence and sovereignty achieved through the sacrifices of millions of martyrs are the nation's most precious assets. She reiterated that upholding national sovereignty and strengthening state institutions remain moral and constitutional duties for all citizens.
Addressing the role of public administration, Farida Khanam emphasized that ensuring public welfare, protecting citizen rights, and enhancing service quality are key administrative duties. She instructed public officials to carry out their tasks with transparency, accountability, professionalism, and a service-oriented mindset. Furthermore, she stressed the need to instill patriotism, ethics, and civic responsibility in the younger generation.
The discussion was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners, Lalbagh Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Md Moshfaq Sarkar, Additional Superintendent of Police Subhash Chandra Saha, Department of Narcotics Control Deputy Director Md Shamsul Alam, and District Commandant Md Mainul Islam, along with government officials, freedom fighters, political and civic leaders, and journalists.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and books to the winners of an art competition organized by the District Children's Academy.
