The 127th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was celebrated in the district with due respect and enthusiasm through a colorful discussion meeting and a vibrant cultural program on Thursday afternoon.

Organized by the Barguna District Administration, the event was held at 4:30 PM at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium.

The celebration brought together senior government officials, political figures, and prominent personalities from the local cultural arena. The primary objective of the event was to propagate the rebellious spirit, egalitarian philosophy, and non-communal ideals of the National Poet among the younger generation. Barguna Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ms. Taslima Akter presided over the program.

During the discussion phase, an essay highlighting the depth of Nazrul's revolutionary entity and his vision of a social equality was presented. The speakers emphasized that nurturing Nazrul’s humanistic philosophy is essential to countering contemporary social degradation, intolerance, and instability, noting that his poems and songs remain a timeless voice against injustice and exploitation.

Among the key speakers, Barguna Zila Parishad Administrator and District BNP Convener Nazrul Islam Molla, Civil Surgeon Abul Fattah, and Public Works Department Executive Engineer Md. Ashraful Alam deliberated extensively on the life, literature, and enduring relevance of the poet. Barguna Press Club President Md. Hafizur Rahman and Journalist Union President Harun or Rashid Rinku were also present alongside other local dignitaries.

In her presidential address, DC Ms. Taslima Akter described Kazi Nazrul Islam not just as a literary icon, but as an unparalleled symbol of rebellion, equality, and human liberation. She underscored that instead of extremism in the name of religion, the poet's profound message of communal harmony and humanity serves as a guiding light for building a progressive modern society. She reiterated the administration's commitment to continuing such intellectual and cultural patronages to inspire the youth.

Coordinated by the District Cultural Officer, the celebration concluded with a captivating cultural segment.

Local artists performed choice selections of Nazrul Sangeet and poetry recitations, infusing a renewed enthusiasm for Nazrul's works among the audience. Concluding the event, local observers noted that such state-sponsored cultural initiatives will play a milestone role in fostering patriotism and healthy cultural values at the grassroots.
