
National Poet’s birth anniv celebrated with dignity : Nazrul’s literary works inspire protest against injustice, unity : DU VC

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan emphasized the importance of learning from the life and literary works of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, stating that his life and literature teach us to persistently protest against injustice.

He further noted that Nazrul’s works inspire us to maintain equality and peace in all circumstances and to uphold unbreakable unity among ourselves. These remarks were made during his speech as the chief guest at a commemorative event held on Sunday at the poet’s tomb premises to mark the 126th birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam.
The event featured speeches by Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Sayma Haque Bidisha and Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. The Director General of Bangla Academy and Professor of Dhaka University’s Bangla Department, Dr. Mohammad Azam, delivered a keynote address titled The Mass Uprising of ’24: Kazi Nazrul’s Legacy. The program was moderated by the Chairman of the Bangla Department, Prof Dr. Sirajul Islam (Siraj Salekin). Faculty and students from the Music Department performed Nazrul’s songs during the event.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan stated that to understand Nazrul and grasp the depth of his literature, one must strive to be a true human being. Describing the National Poet as a poet of equality, rebellion, love, peace, and versatility, he highlighted that Nazrul was a multifaceted personality in his personal life as well. This multidimensionality will continue to inspire generations. He further mentioned that under various development projects, plans are in place to construct several halls at Dhaka University, and the proposal to name one of these halls after the National Poet is being sincerely considered in recognition of his contributions.
It is mentioned to celebrate the 126th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Dhaka University authorities organized various programs. As part of these activities, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan led a gathering of teachers, students, officers, and staff at the base of *Aparajeyo Bangla* in the morning, followed by a procession to the poet’s tomb, where floral wreaths were placed and *Fatiha* was recited.
