Muslims in KSA asked to sight Shawwal crescent on Monday

International Desk

Muslims of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) have been asked to see Shawwal crescent on Monday.

According to Arab News, the Supreme Court of the KSA urged Muslims to sight the Eid crescent moon that marks the end of Ramadan and the onset of the month of Shawwal on Monday, 8 April.

This will signal the end of the holy fasting month and the start of Eid Al-Fitr.

In its announcement, the court urged any person who sees the Shawwal crescent with the naked eye or through telescopes to report it to the nearest court and record their statement. People could also contact their nearest centre to help get to the court.

Ramadan started in the KSA and in most Arab countries on 11 March. If the moon is not sighted on Monday, then Tuesday will be Ramadan 30 and Eid Al-Fitr will begin on Wednesday.

Eid Al-Fitr is a joyous holiday celebrated during the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar. It brings together families and communities for sumptuous feasts, the giving of gifts, and colourful festivities.

Each region of the Kingdom has its own distinctive set of traditions to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr, but what they all have in common is a combination of prayer, charity, hospitality, good food, fine clothing, decorations, and quality time with relatives.
