Mother Hilsa Conservation Campaign : Coast Guard detained 78 fisheremen with 30 lakh meters of nets, 7 wooden boats, 50 -kg hilsa at Hizla in Barishal

Bangladesh Coast Guard detained 78 fishermen with 30 lakh meters of banned nets, seven wooden boats and 50 kg of hilsa fish in Meghna river at Hizla in Barishal.

Coast Guard Headquarters Media Ifficer Lt. Commander Khandaker Munif Taqi gave this information on Sunday noon.

On the occasion of "Ma Hilsa Conservation Campaign-2024", from October 13 to November 3, 2024, collection, transportation, buying and selling, stockpiling and exchange of hilsa have been banned across the country for a total of 22 days. In order to implement such a policy of Bangladesh government, a joint operation was conducted by BCG station Hijla under Bangladesh Coast Guard South Zone on November 03, 2024 from 0500 AM to 1600 PM in the Meghna River and adjacent areas under Hijla Upazila of Barisal District with the combination of Fisheries Department and Naval Police. is managed. 78 fishermen including 30,00,000 meters of prohibited current net, 07 engine powered wooden boats and 50 kg of hilsa fish were arrested in the operation.

Later, the seized nets were burnt and destroyed in the presence of Sub-Project Director Hilsa Resource Development and Management Project, Directorate of Fisheries, Dhaka Muhammad Nasir Uddin and the seized fish were distributed to local orphanages.

78 arrested fishermen were also handed over to Assistant Commissioner (Lands) Yasin Sadek and Executive Magistrate, Hizla for taking legal action.
