Mother hilsa catching festival going on amid ban in Jhalkathi

Jhalakathi Correspondent

Amidst the ban, the mother hilsa killing festival is going on freely in the Suganda river of Jhalkathi.

Jhalkathi District Fisheries Department and administration conduct daily operations through trawlers.

On Friday morning, it can be seen on the surface, from Jhalkathi Sugandha to Bishkhali river, hundreds of fishing dinghy boats and engine-powered trawlers are roaming in various places like Palat, Badurtala, and all the rivers of Jhalkathi. It is alleged that the fishermen are freely killing hilsa by managing some dishonest people in the hilsa protection campaign team.

Those unscrupulous persons took advantage of the special privileges and conveyed the news of the administration's operation to the fishermen.

The fishermen became alert. After the expedition, they went back to the river with nets. However, the actual fishermen claimed that most of the fishermen violating the ban in the river are seasonal fishermen.

According to several sources related to hilsa fishing, several teams of the administration and fisheries department conduct raids in the river every day.

High speed trawlers and speed boats are used in these operations. The crew of these trawlers convey the news of the expedition to the fishermen. Even the sailors on the expedition are involved in hilsa fishing and selling. Fisheries officers with their trawlers embarked on the expedition.

It is alleged that Gautam and Suman leaked the news to the fishermen that they had taken money from the fishermen. Gautam is also involved in the sale and trafficking of caught hilsa fish. Fishermen manage them instead of taking the trawler to the other side and sitting off the trawler.

Trawler drivers Gautam and Suman denied the allegation and said that fisheries officials are staying with us. We do not take money from any fishermen. False allegations have been made against us.

Jhalkathi District Fisheries Officer Rabiul Islam said, no one has the opportunity to use a mobile phone when going on an expedition. Trawler drivers will be excluded if specific complaints are made against them.
