Mother, son among 3 killed in Narsingdi lightning strike

Three people, including a mother and her son, were killed after being struck by lightning strike in Narsingdi's Sadar upazila on Saturday afternoon.
The incidents happened around 11.30am at Bhatirchar area under Alokbali union of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Sharifa begum, wife of Kamal Mia, and her son Emon Mia, 12, both were residents of Alokbali Uttarpara area, and Kaiyum Mia, 35, of Char Aulia area under Raipur upazila.
According to locals, a streak of lightning struck them while the trio along with others were harvesting paddy amid a heavy rainfall, leaving them critically injured.
Locals rescued them and took to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital where the physicians declared them dead.
Narsingdi Sadar Hospital Resident Doctor (RMO) Mohammad Mahmudul Kabir Bashar confirmed the deaths, adding that three people were brought dead to the hospital.
"The process of handing over the bodies to the families is underway," he added.
A shadow of grief has fallen on the families of the victims after the death incident.
