Bhola Correspondent

After the ban on hilsa fishing from 11 October 2023 to 02 November 2023, there has been a mixed reaction among the fishermen regarding the non-availability of the desired hilsa fish in Bhola's Meghna Tentulia.

The fishermen who are lucky enough to get the desired hilsa are very happy and say, if we get it, we hope to be able to pay back the past debts, damages and losses very quickly, inshallah.

On the other hand, the fishermen in Meghna-Tentulia who are not getting the desired hilsa are saying a different tune. They are saying that if we do not get the desired hilsa, how will we pay the debts and losses of the NGO, and how will we run our family. After the ban, there has been a mixed reaction among the fishermen, some happy and some disappointed about not getting hilsa in Meghna Tetulia for two days from Friday November 3 to November 4.

Meanwhile, the busyness of the fishing village has increased as the fishing has started. The fish market has become active. Fishermen are enjoying the hilsa catching festival.

It has been seen in different ghats of Bhola coast that no one has time to sit down, everyone is running in the river. The fish caught by the fishermen is being sold at Rs. Shopping has accumulated. Fishermen, wholesalers and traders are busy. Such images are found in various hilsa plots of Bhola.

After a long wait of 22 days, the fishermen went down to the river. He is selling the amount of fish he got on the first day. Fisherman's dream is to pay back the debts of the past period with the money of selling fish.

Fishermen Kanchan, Mofiz and Siraj said that they are happy to go down to the river. Hilsa and other fish are being caught in nets.

They hope that they will be able to recoup the loss as the price of rice is good. They are hopeful that more fish will be available after a day or two.

Meanwhile, while most of the fishermen are satisfied with the hilsa extraction on the first day with the dream of turning around after the crisis, many are disappointed. Some fishermen said that after the ban, the amount of fish that should be caught is not falling. However, they also said that the production of hilsa may increase after a few days.

The fisheries department of the district believes that if the production of fish in the river increases further in the next few days, the target of hilsa production will be achieved. District Fisheries Officer. Abul Kalam Azad said, fishermen are running in the river and getting fish. But after a few days more fish will be caught.

It should be noted that the number of fishermen who earn their living by catching hilsa in the island district of Bhola is more than three lakh.
