Miscreants broke right leg of a UP chairman with iron pipe after breaking the gate of the Union Parishad in Patuakhali's Kalapara, the police arrested him (victim Chairman) after filing a case of attempted murder.

The role of the police has again raised questions about the professionalism and impartiality of the force. Earlier, due to the internal conflict of the Awami League, the chairman's feet were beaten to pieces.

Latachapali UP Chairman and General Secretary of Union Awamileague Anshar Uddin Molla was arrested on Monday evening in a state of stupor before he recovered and was taken to Barisal Medical College Hospital for higher treatment from Kalapara Hospital.

Eyewitness officers and employees of Latachapoli Union Parishad said that at around 5 pm on Monday, a group of 50/60 miscreants broke the collapsible gate of Latachapoli Union Parishad and started looking for the chairman. When the chairman somehow went upstairs to protect himself and closed the gate, miscreants broke the gate and entered his room and started beating him mercilessly with iron pipe.

At one point, the miscreants crushed his right leg by holding his hands and legs. Later they left him on the floor of the room in a bloody state. On receiving the information, the army personnel came and brought the situation under control and rescued Anshar Uddin Molla and handed him over to the police to take him to the hospital for treatment. Even though he was bleeding profusely, the police delayed taking him to the hospital and registered a case of attempted murder at night and arrested him and took him to the hospital. The emergency department doctor of Kalapara Hospital immediately referred him for better treatment, the source said.

The source also said that they did not see that the chairman beat anyone in front of the Union Parishad on Monday afternoon.

Sources of the seriously injured Anshar Uddin Mollah's family said that 40/50 BNP terrorists attacked the chairman. Later the administration came and rescued him. Instead of rescuing him, the police arrested him in a stupor and delayed his treatment.

Meanwhile Latachapoli Union Chhatra Dal president Rasel Sikder said, ‘When I was coming to Alipur Bazar through the road in front of the Union Parishad, I was attacked in an attempt to kill me under the leadership of Union Chairman Anshar Mollah. BNP people came and rescued me after getting the news. Currently I am admitted in Kalapara Hospital. But I don't know anything about whether someone attacked him.'

Chhatra Dal president Rasel also said, 'On Monday night, I filed a case against 34 people at the Mohipur police station. There are 50/60 more unknown accused in the case.'

Md. Anwar Hossain Talukder, OC of Mohipur Police Station, said, 'Ansar Uddin Molla has been arrested in the attempted murder case of Chhatra Dal president Rasel Sikder. Currently he is undergoing treatment in Barisal under police guard. He will be handed over to the court if he recovers a little.'
