Rozina Chumki (20), an intellectually disabled young woman, was killed by the hammer of a drug-addicted youth in Satkhira. The incident took place in Thanaghata area of Satkhira Sadar Upazila around 9 am on Saturday.

Deceased Rozina Chumki was the daughter of Rezaul Islam of Thanaghata village of Satkhira Sadar Upazila and a vocational class student of Swed Khatimunnesa Hanif Lashkar Buddhi Pratibandhi School located next to Rajarbagan College Ground in Satkhira.

The local crowd arrested the killer Ilyas Hossain and handed him over to the RAB members.

Rezaul Islam, the father of the deceased, said that at around 9 in the morning, drug addict Ilyas Hossain (30), son of Iqbal driver of neighboring Thanaghata village, hit his disabled daughter Rozina Chumki on the head with a hammer. She was seriously injured. She was quickly rescued and taken to Satkhira Sadar Hospital where the doctor on duty declared her dead.

Mumtaz Mujib, a doctor on duty at the emergency department of Satkhira Sadar Hospital, said that She died on the way to the hospital. The girl suffered severe head injuries from the hammer. Due to which She died shortly after the injury.

Headmaster M Rafiq of Swed Khatimunnessa Hanif Lashkar Intellectually Handicapped School said that the deceased Rozina Chumki was a student of the vocational class of his school. She is mentally retarded.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Satkhira Sadar Police Station Md. Rafiqul Islam confirmed the truth of the incident from the spot and said that the murderer youth has been arrested.

Md. Faisal Tanveer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Satkhira Branch of Khulna RAB-6, said that the local residents, who were angry about the killing of a disabled person with a hammer in Thanaghata, detained the murderer and some of his family members and brought them to the camp.
