Mehidy hits 50 as Bangladesh escape fear of inning defeat

Allroudner Mehdiy Hasan Miraz hits his nigth 50 and Test on Wednesday as Bangladesh escaped the fear of innings defeat in the Dhaka Test against South Africa.

In the seventh wicket stand, Mehdiy and debutante Jaker Ali formed an 89-run stand after the hosts lost three quick wickets to begin the day.

In this match, Kagiso Rabada, South Africa’s most successful pacer, sent Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mushfiqur Rahim, two overnight batters, back in the same over.

Rabada delivered just outside off, which Joy went to play to the cover but only edged it to the wicketkeeper. Just one ball after, Mushfiuqr missed a delivery pitched outside off and moved inward to shatter his stumps.

Keshav Maharaj took the third wicket Bangladesh lost on Wednesday before lunch.

In the seventh wicket stand, Mehidy and Jaker stood firm and counter-attacked the South African bowling line to score quick runs. They eventually got close to surpassing the 202-run lead of South Africa.

Bangladesh just needs one run to pass the lead.

In the first innings, Bangladesh scored 106, with Rabada, Wiaan Mulder, and Maharaj taking three wickets each. With these three wickets, Rabada completed 300 wickets in Tests.

In reply, South Africa scored 308, with Kyle Verreynne scoring a ton. Taijul took five wickets for Bangladesh.
