Media reform commission holds first meeting

The media reform commission has decided to hold talks with all stakeholders in phases aiming to ensure complete freedom of the country’s mass media.
The decision was taken at the first meeting of the commission held at Tathya Bhaban in the city with commission chief Kamal Ahmed in the chair.
The meeting decided to hold views-exchange meeting in different districts to allow publishers, editors, and journalists of local newspapers to give their opinions.
It also decided to take opinions from people of all strata of life, said a release here.
The meeting also discussion conducting a public opinion survey about the present situation of the mass media’s freedom.
Besides, the commission members discussed making the media financially self-reliant and ensuring the financial security of all those working in the mass media.
In the meeting, a decision was taken to review the first press commission report and the recommendations made by the Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television autonomy policy formulation commission.
At the beginning of the meeting, they paid glowing tribute to the July-August uprising martyrs and observed one-minute silent in honour of their memory.
Commission members Professor Geetiara Nasrin, Shamsul Haque Jahid, Akthar Hossain Khan, Syed Abdal Ahmed, Fahim Ahmed, Jimi Amir, Mostafa Sabuj, Titu Datta Gupta and Abdullah Al Mamun, among others, were present.
