Malaysia rejects plea for extension of deadline to send Bangladeshi workers: Envoy
Diplomatic Correspondent
Bangladesh has lost an opportunity to enter into one of the biggest labour markets as the Malaysian government has outright rejected the request to extend the deadline for sending Bangladeshi workers to the Southeast Asian country.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Shameem Ahsan confirmed it on Wednesday saying that the Malaysian government has also denied the allegation of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) that the Malaysian government issued e-visas on 2 June even after the deadline.
On Monday, the Malaysian government, in a statement, also rejected another request seeking permission to send around 17,000 Bangladeshi workers to the country.
Earlier on 1 June Ahsan said that he was maintaining close communications with employers to ensure that Bangladeshi workers who missed their entry deadlines can regain their jobs.
