A father and son kidnapped a madrasa student, Shakil (9), to raise money for his girlfriend's marriage and to get money for his father's debt.

Later, when they did not get the ransom money, they confirmed that he was strangled to death and dumped his body in a toilet septic tank next to the house and buried it.

This information was given in a press release by Lalmonirhat District Police Superintendent Md. Tariqul Islam.

The accused in the incident were arrested by the police, son Sohan Islam (21), father Shahidul Islam (45) and mother Shahana Begum (45).

According to the information given by them, on Tuesday afternoon, the police recovered the body of the madrasa student from the septic tank in the Fakirtari Ratipur area of Gokunda Union in Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila.

The press release said, accused Sohan had been in a love relationship with Ratna, the daughter of Moti Master of Fatulla area of Narayanganj, over mobile phone for the past 3 years. He was supposed to marry Ratna after Eid. He needed money for the marriage. He also decided to kidnap Shakil to raise money to pay off his father's loan. Later, Sohan tricked Shakil into coming to his house with 30 taka, telling him about the work of removing soil.

Later, he hid Shakil in Shahidul's bedroom and called Shakil's mother Zainab Begum and demanded a ransom of 3 lakh taka. Later, Shakil's mother did not pay the money and reported the matter to the police. Meanwhile, when he did not receive the ransom money, he tied Shakil's hands and feet with rope and held him on his chest and strangled him. At this time, Sohan's father Shahidul held Shakil's legs. Later, after confirming his death, the father and son buried the body about 5-6 feet below the septic tank of the toilet adjacent to the house.

Meanwhile, the police arrested the father, son and mother based on the mobile number and interrogated them in police custody. At one stage, they confessed and according to the information given by them, the police recovered the body from the septic tank.

Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station OC Mohammad Noornabi said, a case has been filed in the police station in this incident. The lungi used by the accused Shahidul, which was wrapped around Shakil's body, has been recovered. The accused were sent to jail through the court.
