Low pressure at Bay may turn into a cyclone
Staff Correspondent
The low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining areas has moved northwestwards towards the Bay of Bengal and turned into a well-marked low, showing the possibility of turning into a cyclone.
In a weather forecast, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has said that it’ll be clear on Thursday whether the well-marked low will turn into a cyclone or not.
“It’s still unclear whether the cyclone will come towards Bangladesh or not. Everything will be clear by Thursday or Friday,” Md Bazlur Rashid, a meteorologist at the Storm Warning Center at BMD told the Daily Sun on Wednesday.
The name of the cyclone will be Migjaum, which has been given by Myanmar.
A total of three cyclones have hit Bangladesh this year.
Of those, cyclone Mocha hit the southeastern coast of the country on May 14 while cyclones Hamun and Midhili crossed the same trajectory respectively on October 24 and November 17.
