Leader of banned BCL hacked to death in Rajbari

A local ward committee secretary of the banned organization Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants in Rajbari on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred in the Beradanga area of Rajbari Sadar Upazila.

The victim, 22-year-old Tanvir Sheikh, was from Binodpur in the same upazila and had been serving as the general secretary of the ward Chhatra League. Tanvir was a second-year Higher Secondary student at Dr. Abul Hossain University College.

According to locals, he was ambushed around 9:00 pm near his home. Four assailants brutally attacked him for 5-6 minutes, causing severe injuries, with his intestines protruding from his abdomen. Later, the miscreants fled the scene leaving him in critical condition.

His family rushed him to Rajbari Sadar Hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was being shifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. But Tanvir succumbed to his injuries on the way around 10:00 pm.

Rajbari's Additional Superintendent of Police, Sharif Al Rajib, confirmed Tanvir's death.

Police launched an investigation into the incident, he added.
