The re-installed foundation plaque marking the inauguration of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) activities by late former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia was unveiled at the RMP Headquarters premises on Saturday.

Minister for Land Mizanur Rahman Minu MP attended the ceremony as the chief guest, while RMP Police Commissioner Mohammad Faizul Kabir presided over the event.

In his introductory speech, Commissioner Faizul Kabir noted that the recovery and re-installation of the original foundation stone—which had gone missing for an extended period—marks an important moment for RMP. Re-created under the initiative of the former Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation, the plaque has been restored to preserve the institution's history.

Addressing the ceremony, Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu recalled that the journey of RMP began in 1992 under the guidance of late Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and the then-Home Minister. He paid tribute to her memory and emphasized that RMP continues to play a vital role in upholding law and order in the region.

The Minister instructed law enforcement agencies to take zero-tolerance measures against gambling, drug trafficking, land grabbing, and border smuggling in Rajshahi. He emphasized that the law must take its own course without political interference, adding that legal action would be taken against offenders regardless of their personal or political background.

The event concluded with special prayers seeking peace, order, and national prosperity, as well as eternal peace for former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

The ceremony was attended by Rajshahi-3 MP Mohammad Shafiqul Haque Milon, Senior District and Sessions Judge AHM Mahmudur Rahman, Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Md. Yusuf Ali, Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, Rajshahi Development Authority Chairman Md. Abul Kalam Azad Sweet, Forest Development Corporation Chairman Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, and Zila Parishad Administrator Advocate Ershad Ali Isha. Senior officials from the district administration, intelligence agencies, Public Works Department, and RMP were also present.
