Pigeon is considered a symbol of peace in the world including Bangladesh. This pigeon is very popular with people from villages to cities in Bangladesh. There are different breeds of these pigeons.

However, domestic pigeons are the most popular in the rural areas of Bangladesh. Currently, some people breed pigeons in rural areas as a hobby, while others also breed them commercially. One such school teacher Farooq of Bholar Lalmohan upazila.

He is a resident of Howladar Para, Ward No. 8 of Lalmohan Municipality. Besides, the head teacher of West Char Kachhpia Government Primary School of Badarpur Union of Upazila. Farooq. He started raising pigeons as a hobby 10 years ago and now he is making extra income to meet the family needs. Teacher Md. Farooq has two sons and two daughters with his wife.

School teacher Md. Farooq said, about 10 years ago, I bought 5 pairs of pigeons for breeding as a hobby. After that, the number of pigeons gradually increased. At present I have about 80 pairs of pigeons. I made a house for these pigeons. Pigeons live there. These pigeons lay eggs, from which the young hatch. The food needs of the family are being met with those children. We sell the babies that remain after eating ourselves. These children do not need to be taken to the market. People took it from home. Additional income is also coming through this.

He also said, feed the pigeons twice a day. I go to school with food in the morning and give food again after returning from school. Pigeon food costs around 3000 rupees per month.

Apart from these expenses, at the end of the month, the pigeons are sold and the profit is around 5 thousand rupees. I sell each pair of pigeons for 250 taka. The price is a little lower because people come from home. If you take it to the market and sell it, the price might be a little higher. But I am satisfied with the income from the sale of the house. Because this pigeon breeding is just my hobby.

Teacher Md. Farooq's neighbor and madrasa teacher Abdul Mannan Liton said that he has been rearing domestic pigeons for a long time in the yard of his house. Everyone in the area buys baby pigeons from him. Sometimes I myself buy babies from him.

Another of his neighbors and upazila social service officer. Masud Talukder said, besides teaching, pigeon rearing is an example. Through this he is able to meet the family's non-food needs. At the same time, you can also earn extra by selling baby pigeons. Everyone should use the land for any purpose without leaving it abandoned.

Lalmohan Upazila Livestock Office Deputy Assistant Livestock Officer Md. Billal Uddin said that we are regularly investigating all types of farmers in the upazila. At the same time I am also giving them necessary advice. As a result of which the farmers are benefiting, they are also profiting.
