Khaleda Zia is not allowed to go abroad for treatment

Staff Correspondent

Law Ministry has not given permission to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to go abroad for treatment.

The ministry, however, recommended extending the suspension of Khaleda Zia’s jail sentence by six months.

"Suspension of Khaleda's jail sentence has been extended for six months with two conditions: she is prohibited from travelling abroad and is required to receive treatment in Dhaka," said Law Minister Anisul Huq while talking to journalist.

The law ministry has sent the file to the home ministry, which will take appropriate actions to this end, Anisul added.

The government temporarily freed Khaleda Zia from jail through an executive order by suspending her sentence on 25 March 2020, with conditions that she would stay at her Gulshan residence and would not leave the country.

Since then, her release term has been extended every six months following the family's plea.
