Justice Manik taken to court amid tight security

Retired justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, who was detained by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday night, was taken to the court.

Amid tight security, he was taken to the court around 11:30am on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, justice Manik was handed over to Sylhet's Kanaighat Police Station by the BGB.

Till 12:30pm, no formal complaint has been filed by the BGB or the police, said Kanaighat Police Station OC Jahangir Hossain Sarder.

Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik was detained at about 10pm when he was trying to flee to India through Dona border area under Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet district.

Earlier, a case was filed against former Supreme Court Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik at a court in Noakhali for making derogatory remarks against BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman. On Monday (August 19) afternoon, Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal central committee's organizing secretary Rabiul Hasan Polash filed the case at Noakhali Senior Judicial Magistrate No. 1 court.
