
Journalists vow to play active role in protecting Sundarbans

A meeting of the Journalism for Sundarbans Committee was held on Sunday at the Agrogoti Organization’s Resort and Training Center in Satkhira, with the theme “Reducing Pollution and Improving the Sundarbans Ecosystem.”
The event was presided over by Taslim Ahmed Tonkar, Manager of Rupantar.Senior journalist Monirul Islam Mini attended as the chief guest. Special guests included Committee Convener Mostafizur Rahman Uzzal, Member Secretary Ahsan Rajib, and Advisor G.M. Mujibur Rahman. The event was conducted by Golam Kibria, District Coordinator of the Eco Sundarbans Project.Speakers highlighted the severe environmental threats facing the Sundarbans—dubbed the "lungs of Bangladesh"—and emphasized the crucial role of the media in raising awareness. They stressed the need for strict enforcement of environmental laws, community awareness, promotion of eco-friendly tourism, and creation of alternative livelihoods for locals.In observance of World Environment Day.
it was announced that 10,000 eco-friendly bags would be distributed in each upazila of Satkhira to reduce polythene use. Each bag is designed for year-long use by an individual.
