Dohar (Dhaka) Correspondent

Journalist Nazmul Hossain Antar, Dohar Correspondent of the daily Amadre Shomro and the Nawabganj correspondent of the private TV channel Independent TV in Nawabganj upazila of Dhaka, was seriously injured by miscreants.

The attack took place on the bridge called Dakatbari in Nayanshri Union of the upazila at around 12:30 am on Saturday.

The seriously injured Nazmul Hossain Antar is the son of Md. Manik Bepari of Khanepur village in Nayanshri Union of Nawabganj upazila.

He is the Dohar correspondent of Amadre Shomro, the Nawabganj correspondent of the channel Independent TV and the executive editor of a regional newspaper called Nababangla.

Nazmul's relatives said that on Saturday night, at around 12:30 am, journalist Nazmul Hossain Antar was on his way to his home Khanepur after a news program and a waz mahfil program in Dohar upazila on a motorcycle when miscreants attacked him with sharp weapons, slashing his hands and feet, seriously injuring him, and fled. While fleeing, the miscreants took journalist Nazmul's mobile phone, motorcycle, and cash.

Later that night, his family members took him to Nawabganj Government Hospital. The doctor on duty there sent him to Dhaka Pangu Hospital for advanced treatment after seeing his condition as serious.

On Sunday (January 26), journalist Nazmul's brother Nayan confirmed the matter and said that the police recovered my brother's (journalist Nazmul) motorcycle from the banks of the Ichamati River near Deotala School in the upazila and took it to Nawabganj Police Station. Currently, his brother is admitted to the hospital for surgery.

In this regard, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police of Dohar Circle Md. Ashraful Alam said, Nazmul's brother and relative have been spoken to. It is known that there were 2 people. The motorcycle has been recovered. Initially, it is believed that this is not a robbery but a previous enmity. The police are investigating. When Nazmul recovers a little, we can talk to him and get more clarity.
