Journalist Badiul Alam dies at 78

Veteran journalist Badiul Alam has died of age-related complications at his residence in Dhaka’s Eskaton at the age of 78.

He had been suffering from several health complications, including a kidney ailment, for a long time, according to his family.

He will be buried at Azimpur Graveyard in Dhaka following funeral prayers at National Press Club at 8:30pm on Sunday, said the club’s managing committee member Quazi Rownak Hossain.

Badiul worked for the Gonokantho, the Financial Express and the News Today as chief reporter, special correspondent and senior reporter, respectively. The most recent time he held the position of city editor at the News Today.

The journalist, who had worked in the economy and energy sectors for a long time, was always vocal in the movement for the rights of media workers.

He was elected as vice-president and treasurer among multiple positions at the National Press Club. He was also a founding member of Dhaka Reporters Unity.
