Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity has demanded 5,000 new high-quality buses under the management of the government to remove unfit and slow-moving buses from the capital as the first step to building a smart Bangladesh.

Secretary General Md Mozammel Haque Chowdhury of the Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association made this demand at a press conference organised at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Saturday.

In a written statement, he said, Bangladesh will enter the ranks of middle-income countries. Therefore, the government is determined to improve the public transport system of the country, including the capital Dhaka.

In the current term of the new government, the countrymen demand to establish good governance in the road and transport sector. People demand to remove unfit vehicles from the road to build a smart, affordable, and safe public transport system, read the statement.

Therefore, instead of small vehicles across the country, they demanded 5,000 new high-quality buses be brought under government management through a company or PPP.
