Jatiya Party's election decision heats up 6 seats in Jashore

The Jatiya Party's primary election decision ahead of the 13th National Parliament election has sparked fresh heat in Jessore politics. After the party's central committee meeting in the capital on Wednesday  announced the primary decision to participate in the election, a huge amount of activity has begun among potential candidates in Jessore. Communication, lobbying and lobbying have begun at the central and local levels to get party nominations.
 
Several responsible sources in the Jatiya Party said that several leaders are expecting nominations in all six parliamentary constituencies of Jessore district. So far, at least 15 leaders in six constituencies have expressed interest in getting the party's nomination and a list of their names has already been submitted to the Jatiya Party central office. Although the party's decision is awaited, the potential candidates are strengthening organizational contacts in their respective areas.
 
According to information provided by party Secretary General Shamim Patwary, the Jatiya Party has participated in each of the nine parliamentary elections held since independence. Sometimes the party has contested the elections alone, sometimes as part of a political alliance. In that vein, the Jatiya Party is preparing to be active in the electoral arena this time too.
 
After the party's initial announcement of participation in the elections, the activities of the nomination hopefuls in Jessore have become more visible. They are trying to meet with party leaders and activists, communicate with well-wishers and demonstrate organizational strength. However, the question of whether there will be more disagreements or mental breakdowns within the party due to multiple candidates in one seat has also come up for discussion.
 
Party sources said that the list of nomination hopefuls submitted to the central leadership includes Sharsha Upazila Jatiya Party President Akhter Hossain, District Jatiya Party Joint Convener Chanchal Mahmud and District Committee Member Aminur Rahman from Jessore-1 constituency. District Jatiya Party Member Secretary Mufti Firoz Shah, District Member Professor Rezaul Islam and Chaugachha Upazila Branch General Secretary Maqbul Hossain are the nomination hopefuls for Jashore -2 (Jhikargachha-Chowgachha) constituency.
 
Among the candidates for nomination in Jessore-3 constituency are Central Jatiya Party Vice President Shariful Islam Saru Chowdhury, Jessore Sadar Upazila Jatiya Party Convener Abdul Aziz and Central Tarun Party Vice President Khabir Gazi. In Jessore-4 constituency, Adviser to the party chairman and Bagharpara Upazila Jatiya Party President Advocate Zahirul Islam Zahir and Brigadier General (retd.) Masud are in discussion as nomination candidates.
 
Apart from this, Monirampur Upazila Jatiya Party President Abdul Halim and General Secretary Abdul Habib are also seeking nomination from Jessore-5 (Monirampur) constituency. Keshabpur Upazila Jatiya Party President GM Hasan and General Secretary Ruhul Amin are also interested in getting the party's nomination from Jessore-6 (Keshabpur) constituency.
 
In this regard, Shariful Islam Saru Chowdhury, central vice-president of the Jatiya Party and a candidate for the Jessore-3 constituency, said, "The Jatiya Party has decided to initially focus on the elections. Therefore, the candidate selection process must begin very soon. Those who are seeking nomination have been instructed to collect and submit nomination forms according to the party rules."
 
 
Overall, the Jatiya Party's election decision has given new momentum to Jessore politics. Political observers believe that the heat of the nomination contest will increase further in the coming days.
