Jamaat leader Azharul Islam hugely welcomed at Badarganj, Taraganj

Md. Mafiz Uddin Sarker, Rangpur

After 15 years of being acquitted by the Supreme Court, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Executive Council Member and former Acting Secretary General living martyr ATM Azharul Islam returned to his birthplace and attended a Thanksgiving rally and Eid reunion in Badarganj and Taraganj Upazila of Rangpur.

Former Acting Secretary General, living martyr ATM Azaharul Islam, has said that he had no connection with the alleged crime for which he was sentenced to death.

He said that there is no alternative to national unity in the current crisis of the country. ATM Azharul Islam said this as the chief guest at the gratitude gathering and Eid reunion organized at the local Shahapur ground in Badarganj Upazila on Thursday afternoon, June 12. The gathering was presided over by Badarganj Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Maulana Kamruzzaman Kabir. Speaking as the chief guest at these gatherings, the living martyr ATM Azaharul Islam, a member of the Central Executive Council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former acting Secretary General, said, "The fascist oppressor Sheikh Hasina had ordered me to be hanged in a false case and kept me in jail for about 14 years and stopped me from speaking. Allah knows very well why I did not become a martyr in jail. Although I am old now, I am young at heart. I will devote myself to the struggle to establish the religion of Allah until the last day of my life, Insha Allah." He said, “Since 2009, the fascist Awami government has killed, imprisoned and oppressed millions of leaders and activists of various political parties of different views, including Jamaat-e-Islami. As a result of this oppression, Allah has brought about their downfall in the mass uprising of the students in the 2024’s Revolution. The pride of Rangpur, Abu Sayeed, sacrificed his life. In return, the oppressor has fallen. The youth gave their hearts to the welfare of the country and the nation that day. The oppressors have fled the country.”

ATM Azharul Islam thanked the Almighty Allah and said, "I have been acquitted of all false charges in the verdict given by the consensus of 7 judges of the Supreme Court." For this, he expressed his gratitude to all those judges and said, "I demand from the government that those who have falsely judged me and accepted the testimony of witnesses seen from 3 kilometers away should be tried." He said, "Those who have committed oppression in the past 16 years have fled the country." He expressed his gratitude to all the patriots who have given their lives in this revolution, who have been crippled and injured. Today, we are free in return for their sacrifice. If you cooperate, Insha Allah, we will serve this area in the future."
