Initiative of Dhaka DC Farida Khanam : Garbage dump in Keraniganj cleaned up following 'Hello DC' complaint

A long-standing garbage dump in front of Kalatia High School and under the adjacent canal bridge in Keraniganj, Dhaka, has been cleaned up following a complaint lodged through the "Hello DC" mobile app.
The prompt action was taken after Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam received the grievance on Sunday (August 10) and directed the Keraniganj UNO to address the issue immediately.
According to local residents, household waste from Kalatia Bazar and surrounding areas had been dumped indiscriminately into the Kalatia canal and under the bridge for a long time. The resulting pile of refuse created severe environmental pollution and foul odor, posing health hazards and immense suffering for students, teachers, and commuters daily.
Upon receiving the complaint through the app, district administration officials instructed the relevant authority to clean the site, successfully removing the accumulated waste and restoring hygiene to the area. Expressing relief, local residents commended the swift intervention by the administration.
DC Farida Khanam highlighted that the 'Hello DC' platform was launched specifically to ensure rapid resolution of public grievances.
She said, public spaces and school surroundings must be kept clean. While we remain committed to resolving citizens' complaints swiftly, local residents must also act responsibly and refrain from dumping waste indiscriminately, she added.
