Mahabubur Rahman Tipu , Dohar (Dhaka)

Houses have been blown away in several places due to three consecutive days of rain and the storm on Sunday evening.

As a result, the public life of low-income people has been disrupted. In 8 union and municipal areas of the upazila, the low income people are suffering due to heavy rain day and night. The locals are not able to go out properly due to water accumulation outside and on the roads. Streets and bazaars are flooded with rainwater. All kinds of small to big vehicles are moving slowly on the Dhaka-Doha highway.

Autorickshaw-van, autobike drivers are spending time sitting in their cars with their hands folded. All types of traders are unable to open shops in the market. Many people have opened shops but there are no customers, shopkeepers complain.

Nurul Islam, an auto driver resident of Sutarpara, said around 1:00 pm on Sunday, it has been raining for three days, and I have been traveling in different parts of Joypara city with my car since morning. No passengers are stranded, people are not coming out of the house due to rain. How can I go if I can't pay the rent?
Talking to some masons and laborers sitting in Meghula haat-bazaar, they said that they are not working because of the rain. Their condition is very bad due to rain.

Narisha, Muksudpur, Sutarpara, Bilaspur, Kusumati Union have been visited, due to hostile weather there is stagnation in public life. Many do not go out of the house without urgent need. Ignoring the rain, the hard-working people came out of the house to earn a living. They are also in dire straits as there is less traffic on the roads.

Apart from this, due to continuous rain, water has accumulated in various places of the union and caused waterlogging. Paddy and vegetable fields in Ariyal Bill area flooded due to rain. People going to office in the morning have also been affected by the irony of this rain and students have not attended the educational institutions. Low income people including rickshaw drivers have also suffered due to rain. Passengers complain that they have to pay more for rickshaws and auto fares due to rain. Vegetable and fish markets are empty, there are no buyers.

Municipal roads have become impassable due to waterlogging. Various roads in the upazila and municipality have become potholes. Several paved roads have collapsed in Sutarpara and Diakum areas. As a result, people are suffering to travel through these roads.

Sutarpara Union Awami League President and UP Chairman Nashir Uddin's house without voting, construction of 250 meters long road and removal of rainwater at a cost of Tk. 78 lakhs due to irregularities in the work of the related contractor company, the road has now turned into a dilapidated condition. .

The financial losses of the locals are increasing along with the public suffering due to water accumulation and flooding. They are blaming upazila LGED and local UP chairman in this incident. To loot the government money, the chairman looted this money by constructing a new road and digging a drain next to the road.
Sutarpara Temporary Union Parishad area was flooded due to the construction of small drainage to drain the water.

There are about 4000 people living in this area. Here also the chairman has made irregularities in road construction and drainage construction. Currently, the area is very densely populated and people are unable to leave their homes due to waterlogging. Many houses have water and water between houses. Chairman Nashir Uddin has constructed several drains with funding from upazila and municipality to drain the water. At present everything has failed. Residents complain that water is not being drained through these drains. The drains were irregularly constructed in 2022/23 but are now filled with soil and garbage.

Every year there is waterlogging in the area, but no measures are taken to remedy it by the administration. Some places in the residential areas are almost knee-deep in water. Many pedestrians had to walk with wet shoes. Due to waterlogging, many old drains have come up on the roads. It stinks everywhere.

Due to these reasons, it is not possible for many people to walk through the road. At present, after the fall of the Awami government, all the UP chairmen have given cover.
