Illustrated son of Sapahar Asaduzzaman becomes chairman of ACC

AKM Asaduzzaman, an illustrated son of Sapahar in Naogaon and former judge, has been appointed as the new chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). He was given this responsibility in a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Monday.
According to the notification, Justice AKM Asaduzzaman has been appointed as the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in accordance with the provisions of the relevant section of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004. At the same time, Dr. Jahangir Alam Khan and Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan have been appointed as Commissioners.
Justice AKM Asaduzzaman, who previously served as a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, retired in February this year after turning 67.
Justice AKM Asaduzzaman was born on March 1, 1959, in Khanjanpur Talkura village, Sapahar upazila, Naogaon. His father, M.A. Samad, was also a renowned lawyer. He obtained LLB (Hons) and LLM degrees in law from Rajshahi University.
He began his legal career by enrolling as a lawyer in the District Court in 1983. He was then enrolled as a lawyer in the High Court in 1985 and the Appellate Division in 2001.
In 2003, he was appointed as an additional judge of the High Court Division and became a permanent judge of the High Court Division in 2005. Later, on March 25, 2025, he was appointed as a judge of the Appellate Division.
The appointment of AKM Asaduzzaman, a prominent son of Sapahar, as the chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission has created joy throughout Naogaon. The locals see his appointment as a matter of pride and honor for Sapahar and the people of Naogaon.
