‘Rangpur Jagrata Nagorik Samaj’ has formed a human chain demanding an immediate ban of Housie and Gambling at the fair organized by Proyas at Ghaghat square in Rangpur city on Sunday afternoon. The speakers alleged that these activities conducted behind the scenes of the fair are contributing to moral degradation, drug addiction and crime in the society. They also warned of a larger movement if these activities are not stopped soon.

More than a thousand men and women from different classes and professions participated in the human chain held at the Rangpur Press Club square at 5:30 pm on Sunday.

Rangpur-3 MP Mahbubur Rahman Belal spoke as the main speaker at the human chain. He said that currently the spread of drugs has reached a worrying level everywhere in society. Although the government and related organizations are working to control drugs, the desired results are not coming. One of the reasons for this is that many responsible people are not performing their duties properly.

He alleged that every year a special group has been organizing Housie, gambling, lotteries and various immoral activities in the name of fair in the Ghaghat area. These activities are misleading the youth and creating various crises in the family and society.

Other speakers at the human chain included Ameer ATM Azam Khan of Rangpur Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami, Secretary of the Alama Division Maulana Shahjahan Siraj, Convener of the NCP Rangpur District Branch Al Mamun, Adv Kawsar Ali, Adv Tarequzzaman Tarek, Abul Kalam Azad, Shamsuddin Shuja and Women Representative Shamima Chowdhury.

The speakers said that gambling, Housie, lottery and immoral activities in the name of fair are not acceptable in any way. The administration must take effective steps to immediately stop these activities to protect the society and future generations.

Representatives of various social, cultural and political organizations including the Ideal Teachers Federation Rangpur Metropolitan, Desiya Sangsadkriti Sangsad Rangpur Metropolitan, Angikar Shilpi Gosthi, Payra Shilpi Gosthi, NCP , Bangladesh Labour Party, JAGPA, Vishwati Alem Samaj, and Bangladesh Development Party, lawyers, doctors and others participated in the human chain.
