 The teaching community, students, and locals have erupted in protest, demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the murder of BNP leader and teacher Harunur Rashid Master at Dohar.

From Saturday to Monday, a three-day human chain was held to demand the arrest of those involved in the killing, a proper investigation of the case, and justice.

As part of this movement, on Monday at 11:30 AM, a human chain was organized at Joynal’s Mor in Nayabari Union of the upazila, with participation from the school’s teachers, students, former students, and guardians. After the human chain, speakers stated that Md. Harunur Rashid was a teacher. They said, “We know he fell victim to a political dispute. By brutally killing him, the dignity of an ideal teacher has been tarnished. As teachers and conscious citizens, we demand the arrest and trial of his killers.”

Present at the event were the school’s headteacher Abdul Halim, senior teachers Lutfar Rahman, Jahangir Alam, former senior teacher Abdul Wahab Mia, former students Abdul Mannan, Al-Mamun Lablu Molla, Dr. Ilamuddin, Nazrul Islam Liton, guardian representatives Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan, Tota Molla, Mashiur Rahman Ripon, Lablu Dewan, Selim Reza, Gautam Sarkar, Saidur Rahman Shipu, Monir Molla, Majnu Mia, Wasim Molla, Firoz Alam, and others.

Prior to this, on Sunday afternoon, a human chain was held at Kartikpur Bazar in the upazila. The event was organized under the banner of the “Dohar Ideal Teachers Federation,” a teachers’ organization.

The deceased, Harunur Rashid, also known as Harun Master, was the son of Siraj Uddin from Bahra village. He was the former president of the Nayabari Union BNP and the chief advisor of the current convening committee. He was a senior teacher at Bahra Habil Uddin High School. Last Wednesday (July 2) around 6 AM, he left his home for a walk. While walking near the Padma River by Bahra Habil Uddin School, three youths on a motorcycle shot him six times and hacked him to ensure his death before fleeing.

 On Saturday (July 5), in the afternoon, the deceased’s brother, Abdul Mannan, filed a murder case at the police station as the plaintiff. In the case’s FIR, local member Samsuddin was named the prime accused, with seven individuals listed as named accused and 10-15 others as unidentified accused.
