How Indian sugar being stored in Ajmiriganj to take extra price

Diluar Husen, Ajmiriganj (Habiganj)

Hundreds of sacks of Indian sugar are illegally stored in various markets markets of Sadar and Ajmiriganj upazila every day by tomtoms, minitrucks and boats on the river.

From Sunamganj, a bordering district, the sugar was first stored in Pratappur market of Shalla upazila near Paharpur market through a trader said to be in Paharpur market of No. 2 in Badalpur UP of Ajmiriganj upazila.

In the next stage of warehousing, the Indian sacks are changed to local sugar sacks and smuggled to Ajmiriganj market, Kakailcheo market through minitrucks, tomtoms and rivers.

It has been confirmed by several sources that some Indian sugars in Ajmiriganj and Kakailcheo markets have completed the work of market varieties in various markets of Habiganj district including neighboring Kishoreganj district using different media.

In addition to marketing, there are reports that approximately 2,000 sacks of Indian sugar are being stored in 3-4 warehouses in Paharpur Bazar of Ajmiriganj, two warehouses adjacent to Ajmiriganj Old Cinema Hall, one warehouse on Basmahal Road, and some warehouses adjacent to Agricultural Bank in Kakailcheo Bazar in the hope of more profit in the future.

Sugar has been seized and traffickers arrested in different parts of the country, but it is different in Ajmiriganj. This sugar import and marketing is being organized in broad daylight by boats. When some unscrupulous businessmen of Ajmiriganj and Shalla upazilas flourished through this sugar trade, there are various discussions and criticisms going on in the conscious circles because no action was taken against them.

Due to illegal import of sugar, the government is deprived of huge amount of revenue, at the same time consumers have to buy low quality sugar at the price of domestic sugar and suffer from various diseases as a result of consuming this unrefined sugar.

Talking to the local traders, they said that no one wants to buy domestic sugar now because of the difference of 30 taka per kg compared to the market sugar. Some are selling Indian sugar sacks at a higher price as domestic sugar. Basically, because there is no activity of the administration, these sugars are found openly in the market.

On the condition of anonymity, some people said that the main smuggler was making fake auction papers and changing the Indian sacks into local sugar sacks and selling them in the market by deceiving the members of the law enforcement agencies. When I spoke to a few businessmen, they said that they are running this business by paying money everywhere, if you want to know what is meant by everywhere, please understand the details and did not want to comment.

There has been a mixed reaction to Indian sugar at the local and consumer level, with many forced to purchase Indian unrefined adulterated sugar due to lack of domestic refined sugar in the markets. If the local administration does not monitor the market properly in time and bring the unscrupulous traders under the law, just as a large number of people will suffer from various unknown diseases due to unrefined adulterated sugar, the government will also suffer huge losses in the economic sector. Some unscrupulous traders of the Indian sugar traders syndicate will benefit. . They sought the kind attention of the administration to stop the import of Indian sugar and bring the importers under the law as soon as possible.

When contacted the Assistant Director of Consumer Rights Protection Habiganj, Devanand Sinha, he told about this, market monitoring is decreasing due to the blockade, we will take appropriate action if we get the correct information.

When Ajmiriganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jewel Bhowmik's comment was sought about the matter, he told that sugar issues have come to our attention sporadically. We have not received any complaint in this regard, please help us with correct information and we will take strict action.

Ajmiriganj Baniachong Additional Commissioner of Police Palash Ranjan De asked to know what action to take, he told that you contact me with correct information. Appropriate action will be taken.
