Hope to get info on missing MP Azim soon: Home Minister

Information regarding ruling party lawmaker Anwarul Azim, who recently went missing after going to India for treatment, hopefully will be found soon, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said.

“We were informed by his (Azim’s) family that there is no trace of him. All government agencies are working on it. Our NSI (National Security Intelligence), SB (Special Branch) and police are working in this regard. We are also working with Indian police and intelligence agencies. Hopefully the information will be known soon through the Indian government,” Kamal told reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement at the secretariat on Tuesday.

He also said Anwarul Azim has gone to India after passing through the immigration processes of Bangladesh and India.

Member of parliament from Jhenaidah-4 constituency Anwarul Azim went to India through the Darshana border on 12 May. He was in contact with the family till 14 May. There is no information regarding his whereabouts since 16 May. His mobile phone is also switched off.

His family informed the detective police that Anwarul Azim went missing after going to India.

Asked if there is any updated information about Anwaral Azim, the home minister said, “There is none so far. I heard that his mobile is also switched off.”

Meanwhile, in an event at Dhaka Reporters Unity, Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud told journalists that the home affairs ministry is working on Anwarul Azim’s case. Detectives of Bangladesh and India are working in this regard and they can say what happened.
