JnU Correspondent
The construction projects for Habibur Rahman Hall and Bani Bhaban at Jagannath University (JnU) are in their final stages of approval, according to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim.
“Construction will commence as soon as the project receives final approval. Only one meeting remains, which will be held shortly. The project has already passed through the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Finance, and is now with the Planning Commission for submission to ECNEC (Executive Committee of the National Economic Council). This process naturally takes some time,” he said.
He made these remarks on Saturday noon during a reception and award ceremony organized by the Department of Islamic Studies to honor the champion players of the "8th Inter-Department Cricket Tournament (Male) – 2025." The event took place in Room 1007B of the Department of Islamic History and Culture. The Vice-Chancellor added, “Since the current government assumed office, our project has progressed more swiftly than in most other public universities. Students need to remain patient. We are hopeful that they will soon benefit from improved residential facilities. However, some land acquisition for the second campus is still pending. Without resolving this issue, we cannot move forward. In many ways, the matter is out of our hands.”Speaking on financial transparency, he said, “We returned the unused portion of our allocated funds after completing necessary expenditures. This has happened in at least 10 to 20 instances. Our progress is the result of everyone working with integrity.”At the same event, Treasurer Dr. Sabina Sharmin said, “Whether in sports, debate, or recitation—students of the Department of Islamic Studies have consistently excelled. There is hardly any field where their presence is not felt.”She also announced that a lift will be installed in the administrative building, considering the urgency. “When the UGC chairman visited the university, he chose not to climb the large staircase. A pregnant female faculty member could face similar difficulties. This is not wasteful spending—it is a necessity,” she explained.Controller of Examinations Mostafa Hasan said, “Just as Al-Azhar University has illuminated the world, we hope the Department of Islamic Studies will bring similar honor.”Dr. Imranul Haque, Chairman of the Department of Marketing, remarked, “Many can become champions, but not everyone can organize such a successful event.”
Professor Dr. Rais Uddin, Chairman of the Department of Islamic Studies and president of the event, said, “Our students gave their all on the field, which led to our championship. To keep student life vibrant, the sports budget should be increased. Everyone at Jagannath University is part of a single family—there’s no room for any external agendas here.”It is mentioned that on February 27, the Department of Islamic Studies won the title of champion in the "8th Inter-Department Cricket Tournament (Male) – 2025" by defeating the Department of Accounting and Information Systems by five wickets.
